Rags discovered this morning that he was expected to be caught, saddled, bridled, and made to DO THINGS. He was ready to be unwilling for all the above, but he is (in his persona as Hay Bandit and Pellet Thief) strongly food motivated, and the foods he likes better than hay or pellets…come in packages Read More…

Soup Again
It’s time to make winter soups again. The ingredients for a good hefty winter soup are now in the house, and the beans–which always before I measured only by volume, 4 cups for a full batch in the 12 quart pot–I also weighed, this time. One pound, eleven point three ounces. Very close to one Read More…
Recoveries and Second Feasts and 80 Acres Mystery Fungus
R- recovered enough from his version of my disease by this past weekend for me to redo the feast of the weekend before. Success, we enjoyed it, our guest enjoyed it, and in the process I invented a post-invention-obvious pie. Having been less than thrilled with the commercial pie I’d ordered to satisfy a yearning Read More…
Whatever That Was…
I’m glad I’m (almost) well again. And I’ve now eaten some T-day foods, so I’m satisfied with the holiday week, if not with the holiday itself, or the several days before it when whatever-that-was and my immune system battled inside me. I still have coughing spells. I’m still not bursting with energy (was it only Read More…
Of Running Shoes, Proteins, and Holidays
About 20 minutes ago, (as I start this…who knows how long before it’s finished and ‘up’?) I came back from my second exercise period with my new running shoes. I went up through the dry woods to Fox Pavilion, then turned east and walked (mostly) up over the “hump” of it, and down to the Read More…
And In Other News
I’m about to go buy my first ever pair of running shoes…specifically, trail running shoes. I ran everywhere as a kid (except when forced to not run) and loved running, but there was no girls’ track anywhere in the region, then. I was the fastest kid in my grade, up until 7th, beaten by an Read More…
Biopsy Result
Biopsy report said the specimen was pre-cancerous and no further surgery necessary, but surveillance. The high wind some of you experienced…sigh of relief. The removal area will be checked regularly. Thanks, everyone, for your concern and well-wishing.
Medical Update
OK everybody…got any new lumps, “pimples” that don’t act like normal pimples, skin stuff that’s actively changin, getc, etc? This is a heads-up….have them seen by a physician with referral to a dermatologist if deemed “suspicious.” Yup, I had a fast-growing lump–fast enough at first to convince me that I had a pimple on my Read More…
Water From the Sky Again (yay!)
The predicted storms started with a BOOOOOMMMMM! around midnight, followed by hard rain for maybe 20 minutes, and then off and on rain (some quite hard) through the night and into the morning. It’s dark. It’s much cooler (50sF, cold to us, esp. with rain). I went out between downpours this morning and hayed the Read More…
Hitting the Mark, Etc.
Rarely happens this way, but my calculations said I should get to the 2/3 point in the planned mass decrease on Thursday the 28th, and when I stepped on the scale before breakfast on Thursday…there it was. 40 down exactly. Yay! This means at least 20 to go (may overshoot by 5, for the sake Read More…
