This anemone, or windflower, is the earliest of the wildflowers in the bit
of remnant prairie down by the creek woods. |
In the near meadow, the first wild onion showed up March 11, the party
day. |

The Lyside sulfur butterfly that came to the Mexican plum last week is pale
yellow on the top of the wings, and green underneath. |
This weird-looking insect was on a prickly pear pad on March 11--I have no
idea what it is. |

On our way out to look for wildflowers and things, we were
ambushed by horses who wanted petting. Here, Mac is making it clear that he's a poor, sad,
neglected creature desperate for love...Illusion also put on the pitiful act, but he wasn't as
photogenic. |

Through the spring woods as the leaves are
starting to come out--but it's still dry. |

...others climb up to the observation platform. |

The Mexican plum in the SW meadow, though past its peak, was
covered with these gorgeous little green and gold-copper butterflies (olive juniper hairstreaks),
as well as buckeyes and sulfurs and several species of bees. |
