{"id":1476,"date":"2023-05-04T21:04:22","date_gmt":"2023-05-05T02:04:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elizabethmoon.com\/blog\/?p=1476"},"modified":"2023-05-04T21:04:22","modified_gmt":"2023-05-05T02:04:22","slug":"getting-back-in-shape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/elizabethmoon.com\/blog\/index.php\/2023\/05\/04\/getting-back-in-shape\/","title":{"rendered":"Getting Back in Shape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not me personally, but my office&#8230;following the Great Computer Crash and the I-Can&#8217;t-Believe-It&#8217;s-Not-Covid Scare and the Attack of the Gravity Monster (still healing from that last one), and with the help of the amazing Kate Shull, I am now in possession of the Boxes of Delight.\u00a0 Two new computers (one for me, one for husband, each chosen to suit our separate preferences.)\u00a0 Lots of overlap, but I don&#8217;t play any games on mine (not even solitaire on mine) and he doesn&#8217;t write books on his.\u00a0 We both spend hours online but do different things.\u00a0 We both listen to music&#8211;different music, mostly.\u00a0\u00a0 (Headphones&#8211;WONDERFUL)<\/p>\n<p>ANYway.\u00a0\u00a0 Since I could not do any of the looking-up-details stuff I normally do before buying a new computer (the\u00a0 Covid Scare and the crunched bifocals from the Gravity Monster), Kate took care of all that for me,and today we took off to purchase the basic kit.\u00a0 Tomorrow comes the Day of Wrathful Clearing Space in the study, which is a sort of world-class disaster zone of accumulated stuff.\u00a0 (the top of the old computer was decorated with a very old 3.5&#8243; floppy drive, a bead dragon, a wood carving of a sea turtle, and a bit of metal trash that looked to me like the perfect junky-old-space thingie.\u00a0 The desk itself itable that, once I removed the old dead computer&#8230;had no clear space at all, as stacks of pens, pencils, paper scraps, sticky notes, envelopes covered with enigmatic notes (all vitally important) and other stuff spread out to fill the openings.\u00a0\u00a0 Favorite rocks, some books, some magazines, some boxes holding thumb drives, camera cards, &#8220;special&#8221; notes, ink cartridges for dead printers, notebooks with vital information not found anywhere else, doodles that specially pleased me, notes made during recent (mostly) phone calls, CD cases, some full and some empty (reminds me to tell Kate) that the old machine has my best CD of the Faure Requiem *in the now-non-functional CD drive!)<\/p>\n<p>The narrow side table that fits beside the table (making an L) ia equally junky.<\/p>\n<p>My nose, with a thick blood scab on the tip, is beginning to itch as lesser bits of blood dry out and pull away from new skin underneath.
